Agrigento

On our way from Palermo to Siracusa we passed through the town of Agrigento. Just outside the town of Agrigento is what is called the Valley of the Temples, due to the large number of ruined temples in the area. The temple above is the Temple of Juno Lacinia.

The best preserved temple in the area is the Temple of Concordia, shown above. This temple was converted to a Cristian bascilla, and the arched openings in the inner walls, visible in the fourth picture above, are from this conversion.

Above are the remains of the Temple of Heracles, the Temple of Castor and Pollux, and a giant stone statue. Getting the pictures of the statue was difficult because some very inconsiderate tourists were climbing all over it even though our tour guide was yelling at them to get off it. Of all the rude tourists we encountered on this trip (none of which were American), these were probably the worst.

Below are various ruins and the scenery in the area.
